The wrist is particularly susceptible to musculoskeletal and neurological injuries, especially neurological injuries following stroke. An important factor in wrist dysfunction is damage to the central nervous system (CNS). The Wrist Assist Rehab Robot SIFREHAB-1.4’s fundamental goal is to make up for deficiencies of the manual rehabilitation training and reduce the workload of rehabilitation on physicians. SIFREHAB-1.4 stimulates the reorganization and compensation of the CNS and promotes the recovery of the motor system’s motor perception function.
Physical therapy care these days is being driven by a volume-first kind of approach. Third-party payment is always being reduced. We’re seeing reimbursement from the clinics that bills health insurance comes further and further down. Thus quality is being lost and the client is the one, unfortunately, seeing the brunt of this. The SIFROBOT-1.4 is one way to address the shortage of doctors, nurses, and trainers by offering the patient the advantage of continuing their training at home taking pressure off physical therapists. This helps the patient feel less of a burden and less frustrated with the rehabilitation process as a whole.
Rehabilitation with robotic systems offers patients high dosages and training intensities, allowing a repetitive practice of specific movements and/or functional tasks. Indeed, it is precisely through repetition that cortical reorganization can be induced after the stroke.
This robot design provides rotation within the anatomical range of the human wrist motions. A novel compliant robot handle link ensures dynamic passive self-alignment of human-robot axes during therapy exercising.
The definition of assistive devices must be safety first. Through incorporating an expansion/contraction operation system that moves air in and out of the prose and a low-pressure pump, excessive force is prevented. The robot is powered by Power-Assist PAL-100 (Control Box). It has two outputs and powers the wrist assist robot.
